Cabarrus Spark is a capacity-building grant program of the Greater Cabarrus Foundation. It is designed for community investors who want their charitable dollars to do more than fund programs — they want to strengthen the organizations delivering them.
Every Cabarrus Spark project is scoped, vetted, and executed by Support Cabarrus, the Greater Cabarrus Foundation's capacity-building division. That means by the time a project is posted for funding, it has already been evaluated for real organizational need, clear scope, and measurable outcomes. You are not funding a proposal. You are funding a plan.
What Cabarrus Spark Funds
Not general operating support. Not direct service delivery. Capacity.
Cabarrus Spark invests in the systems and leadership behind the mission, building the internal infrastructure that makes nonprofits stronger, more sustainable, and more effective.
Funded projects may include:
Strategic planning and organizational assessment
Financial systems, controls, and sustainability planning
Board governance development and leadership alignment
Staff training and leadership capacity
Technology, data systems, and operational infrastructure
Communications strategy and fund development capacity
Policy, procedures, and compliance systems
How It Works
A straightforward process. A strategic investment.
01 — Scoped and Ready
Each project begins with Support Cabarrus working directly alongside the nonprofit to define the real organizational need, set a clear budget, and establish what success looks like. By the time you see a project, this work is already done.
02 — Reviewed and Approved
The Greater Cabarrus Foundation reviews every proposed project for charitable appropriateness, feasibility, and fundability. The nonprofit reviews and approves their public project summary before anything is posted. Nothing goes live without their sign-off.
03 — You Choose
Browse open Cabarrus Spark projects in the GCF donor portal (CSuite) and recommend a grant from your donor-advised fund. Community investors may also give by credit card, ACH, check, or business sponsorship.
04 — Work Begins
Projects move forward once they reach 80% of their funding goal. After the work is complete, you'll receive an outcomes update of what was accomplished, what changed, and what your investment made possible.

COMMUNITY FREE CLINIC
Since 1994, Community Free Clinic has provided free, coordinated medical care to uninsured adults in Cabarrus County who have no other consistent point of care. Serving residents who don't qualify for Medicare, Medicaid, or VA benefits, the clinic offers primary care, chronic disease management, medication support, diagnostic testing, and specialty referral coordination—all at no charge.

Support Cabarrus will work with the Community Free Clinic board and Executive Director to clarify governance expectations, deepen board alignment, and build fundraising confidence and participation through structured education, training, and a fundraising engagement framework. This is the investment that turns strategy into action.

ELDER ORPHAN CARE
Elder Orphan Care provides practical help, companionship, and hope to older adults aging alone in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties who lack a traditional family support system. Through their Safe and Loved at Home program, they help adults 60 and older remain safe and independent in their own homes through safety assessments, home modifications, essential support, and meaningful human connection.

Support Cabarrus will build volunteer management systems that reliably translate community interest into meaningful client impact, and provide monthly bookkeeping services to support financial operations, compliance, and reporting, helping build long-term organizational sustainability.

PRESENT AGE MINISTRIES
Present Age Ministries is a nonprofit committed to combating the sexual abuse, exploitation, and trafficking of teen girls in Cabarrus County and beyond. They equip communities to identify at-risk youth through prevention and awareness education and support survivors through holistic, individualized care.
SERVICES REQUESTED
Support Cabarrus will work alongside Present Age Ministries to build a go-to-market strategy for curriculum expansion, develop a leadership capacity roadmap, support a strategic hiring process, strengthen donor engagement and storytelling, and provide grant strategy and oversight. This investment creates the systems and breathing room leadership needs to focus outward by building relationships, expanding reach, and growing impact.

CHRISTEAS INC.
Christeas Inc. is a nonprofit rooted in faith and lived experience, serving returning citizens, the elderly, veterans, and youth aging out of foster care. Since 2011, the organization has held a simple, scriptural conviction: nobody left behind; everyone has a purpose. Christeas meets people where they are, offering holistic, individualized support to populations traditional systems often overlook. This provides participants with compassionate support while honoring their dignity and individual circumstances.

Support Cabarrus will work alongside Christeas Inc. to build the governance foundation that lets this mission grow without losing what makes it work. This investment strengthens board structure, decision-making clarity, and long-term sustainability, so the organization can take on bigger partnerships and funding relationships from a position of strength.
Governance Design & Alignment: Clarify organizational structure and define a board purpose built for where Christeas is headed, not just where it's been.
Board Composition Strategy: Design a recruitment approach that brings the right expertise, legal, financial, fundraising, and community connections, onto the board with intention.

LOCK-N-KEY PRISON WIVES AFTERMATH
Lock-N-Key is building a residential reentry program that offers returning citizens more than a place to stay, it's a full pathway back to purpose. The model pairs stable housing with mental health support and workforce development, giving participants and their families the tools to rebuild for the long term.

Support Cabarrus will work alongside Lock-N-Key to build the operational foundation this model needs before it grows: clear structure, defined roles, and a documented framework that lets the program run safely and consistently from day one.
Resident Journey Mapping: Document each phase of the participant experience, from intake through a successful transition to independence.
Eligibility & Intake Framework: Build clear, consistent criteria for who the program serves and how someone enters it.
Staffing Structure: Map the roles and coverage needed to run the program safely and effectively.
Community Partner Alignment: Document the network of mental health, workforce, and community partners that support participants.

CONCORD WILDLIFE ALLIANCE
Concord Wildlife Alliance connects the community to the wildlife and wild spaces of Cabarrus County. Its volunteer leadership team runs education programs, habitat initiatives, and community events with a small but committed group of supporters.

Concord Wildlife Alliance’s volunteer team keeps the mission moving forward, but an outdated, hard-to-update site makes it harder for new supporters to find them, register for events, or get involved. This investment closes that gap: a site the team can manage on its own, built to keep pace with the organization’s growth and impact.
Site Planning & Structure: Build CWA’s sitemap into a complete build plan, giving the design and build work that follows a clear blueprint to work from.
Homepage & Template Build: Design and build a new homepage and reusable page templates CWA's volunteers can maintain on their own.
Volunteer Training & Handoff: Equip CWA's team with the guidance and tools to manage the new site independently going forward.
