GCF Announces Upcoming Board Matching Training to Strengthen Nonprofit Leadership
The Greater Cabarrus Foundation, through its capacity-building division Support Cabarrus, will host its next Board Matching Training on March 18, 2026, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Greater Cabarrus Foundation office at 700 Church St N, Suite 70, Concord, NC. The free, two-hour interactive session is designed to prepare community members for effective and meaningful nonprofit board service.
Strong nonprofit boards are essential to sustainable organizations and thriving communities. This quarterly training equips participants with the knowledge and tools needed to serve with confidence while helping local nonprofits identify leaders whose skills and passions align with their missions.
“When we strengthen nonprofit boards, we strengthen the capacity of our entire community. Board Matching is one way we intentionally build leadership that supports sustainable impact across Cabarrus County,” said Jenn Delaney, Director of Capacity Building Services for Support Cabarrus.
During the session, participants will explore the role of nonprofit boards, legal and fiduciary responsibilities, governance versus operations, and the expectations of effective board service. Attendees will also complete a skills and interest inventory, allowing Support Cabarrus to thoughtfully connect them with organizations that match their experience and areas of passion.
“Participants will step into the role of a brand-new board member for the evening.” said Ashley Sedlak-Propst, Program Manager for Board Services. “This training will cover the basics of board service: from types of boards to the ways a successful board works together to support the mission of their nonprofit. We want you to leave the training with a strong understanding of what it means to be a great board member, and we will connect you with a Cabarrus County organization where your skills and passions can make the greatest impact.”
The training is ideal for professionals seeking meaningful community involvement, current board members who want a governance refresher, individuals transitioning from one board to another, and anyone exploring nonprofit leadership for the first time.
Board Matching is part of Support Cabarrus’ broader commitment to building strong, sustainable nonprofit organizations across Cabarrus County by developing skilled, informed, and engaged board leadership.
The training is free to attend, but registration is required.
